I hold a RI license as I am only a student in Illinois. The case went to court and my statutory summons was expunged to do clerical error so I never lost my license in Illinois. My criminal end of the DUI resulted in Court Supervision. That was back in February of '09 when the court issues were resolved. Yet, on Monday I was told by my parents in RI that I received a letter at their home saying my license is being suspended indefinitely due to a CONVICTION for a DUI that occurred in Illinois. I was told by the judge that court supervision is not a conviction. Is this simply a miscommunication between Illinois and Rhode Island? When I called the RI office in charge of this situation they said "just send us the court documents". Are they going to read a Court Supervision as a conviction? Or should I just send the favorable ruling of the rescinding of the statutory summons? My lawyer from Illinois is being of no help right now claiming that "they don't handle RI issues".
